Delaware is home to many educational opportunities for students of any age. School aged children may attend public schools in one of the state's 19 public school districts, or may attend private, parochial, or charter schools, or be homeschooled. Delaware also provides outstanding opportunities for higher education.

The First State offers higher education in two public institutions. The University of Delaware in Newark, founded in 1743, is one of the oldest land-grant institutions, and is also a sea-grant, space-grant, and urban-grant institution. Over 100 academic majors are available, and over 16,000 undergraduates and approximately 3,000 graduate students are enrolled. Delaware State University in Dover, founded in 1890, enrolls over 3,600 students in 64 undergraduate, 20 graduate, and two doctoral degrees. Additional satellite sites reside in Wilmington and Georgetown.

Delaware also offers a number of private institutions for higher education. Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, founded in 1886, offers its 1,600 students associate, bachelor's, and master's degrees in all areas of business. Wesley College in Dover, founded in 1873 and affiliated with the United Methodist Church, offers 30 bachelor's, four associate, and master's degrees in nursing, education, business administration and environmental science to approximately 2,400 students. Wilmington University in New Castle is a private, non-sectarian school founded in 1968, and offers its 11,500 students undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate degree programs. The Delaware College of Art & Design in Wilmington provides two-year associate degree programs for students interested in art and design, or they may complete a four year Bachelor of Fine Arts degree by continuing their education at Pratt Institute in New York or Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C.

Students seeking certificate programs or associate degrees may attend one of the campuses of Delaware Technical & Community College, based in Wilmington. Over 100 degree, diploma, and certificate programs are available in technical areas.
